St. Leonard’s in the Field’s Church and St. John’s Kirk have formed a Book Group which meets on the last Tuesday of every month at 2pm in “The Chapter House” of St. Leonard’s in the Fields.
We are a lively group of book lovers and our book list offers a variety of genres for discussion. As well as meeting at the club we like to go out and about to book events including The Pitlochry Winter Words Festival and The Edinburgh Book Festival. These events help keep us up to date with new publications and encourage us to read books that we would not normally choose.
We have also started a Book Exchange in our Church Hall every fortnight after morning worship.
The group is open to anyone in the community who loves literature and would like to chat over coffee about the book of the month.
Further information is available from.
The Book Group have had a successful year meeting via Zoom. We have made the best of lockdown by keeping in touch with each other and recommending good reads.
Our monthly meetings have been greatly enhanced by a musical quiz compiled by Edna and we really have had fun with that.
David Lindsay has been an absolute star by accessing Zoom for us and without him I don't think we would have managed.
We have recently read The Girl with the Louding Voice and Hamnet and and they have been well received by the group.
Our members are reading so many books that the list of recommendations is getting longer and longer.... it is wonderful that we have so many good authors and such a variety of genres.
